SELF DRIVE RIVER BOAT RENTALS FROM Argens-Minervois
This small typical village of the region with its 14th century castle, overlooking the Canal du Midi, as well as the river Aude, is the starting point for a boat trip to Carcassonnne (go simple as far as Négra) or to the Thau pond (one way possible to Lattes).
The locks are automatic or electric and manned by lock keepers. The locks are closed the 1st of may .
The ladder of locks at Fonsérannes (near Béziers) is very busy during the high season. Frontignan Bridge opens twice a day, in the morning and mid-afternoon.
The one-way or the navigation towards the Carmargue while crossing the Etang de Thau can be canceled or interrupted if the climatic conditions, in particular the wind, do not allow to pass the Etang de Thau. This does not prevent you from sailing while waiting for the reopening of the pond to navigation.
You can moor anywhere along the banks on the Canal du Midi and in the Camargue.
- Itinerary: From the West / South: A61 - E80 exit 25 Lézignan-Corbières, then D611 direction Lézignan-Corbières and Homps (9 km). Take the road on the right direction D424 direction Argens-Minervois.
- Train: Lézignan-Corbières station (6 km) | Narbonne TGV station (23 km)
- Air: Carcassonne-Salvaza airport (52 km) | Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport (89 km) | Montpellier-Méditérranée Airport (122 km) | Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (146 km)
- At Lézignan (5 km) and Olonzac (8 km), closed Sunday afternoon. Grocery store in Argens, open in the morning and some afternoons.
- Most locks on the Canal du Midi are electrified with lock keeper. On the canal of Robine they are automatic with a lock keeper for 4 locks. The locks are open from 9h to 12h30 and from 13h30 to 19h (high season) or 18h (low season). Closed on May 1st. The crossing of the pond of Thau is prohibited by the superior to 3 Beaufort. On the Lez and the Canal du Rhône at Sète, the few locks are automatic. Warning: the drawbridge at Frontignan only opens twice a day, at 8.30 and 16.00. The opening lasts only a few minutes!
