The Thames is an easy river to navigate and is an ideal destination for beginners. But beware, the traffic can sometimes be heavy. The locks on the Thames are automatic and usually operated by lock keepers. You will find a large number of moorings easily accessible and mostly free. Please note that navigation in central London beyond Teddington Lock is prohibited, but the centre is easily accessible by train.
You can start your Thames cruise at Benson or Chertsey. Before leaving your home base, you will receive a short one-hour training session to familiarise you with your licence-free boat.
The locks are automatic and manned by lock keepers, they are free and open from 9h to 17h (April to October), from 9h to 18h (May, June and September), from 9h to 18h30 (July and August). They are closed between 13h and 14h.
Sailing in central London beyond Teddington Lock is prohibited, but the center is easily accessible by train.
