From Languimberg, there are various directions you can take. You can head towards Nancy for a cruise through the heart of Alsace, head for Sarreguemines to explore the Saar Canal or head towards Strasbourg to explore one of Europe's most impressive waterways. Rent a licence-free boat to navigate on the Marne to East Rhine Canal
Boating on the Marne to East Rhine Canal is rather easy and ideal for a first cruise. Most of the locks are automatic and operate without the assistance of lock keepers. It is the perfect destination for beginners who want to pass locks, cruise throuhg impressive landscapes and discover typical villages, such as Lutzelbourg.
During your boating holidays on this canal, you can moor wherever you want, even in the middle of nature, perfect to discover the Lorraine Regional Nature Park or sleep right in front of the prestigious Castle of Rohans. There are 6 possible departure points for your river cruise on the Marne to East Rhine Canal : Languimberg, Hesse, Lutzelbourg, Saverne, Waltenheim and Boofzheim. Before departure, you will receive a short 1-hour training session about navigation rules and maneuvers.

The locks are automatic on the Marne-Rhine Canal and the Rhone-Rhine Canal. They are closed on some bank holidays. Locks are manual on the Canal de la Sarre.
The Canal de la Marne requires repair work east of Saverne: navigation is therefore interrupted at this level from March 2025 until the end of May 2025.
Sector concerned: Canal de la Marne au Rhin, East branch (on reach 34) between pk 271.016 (Lock 33 at Monswiller) and pk 272.221 (Lock 34 at Steinbourg).
As a result, there is no one-way navigation in Alsace (Boofzheim-Hesse or Languimberg-Waltenheim) from March to the end of May 2025, and no navigation to Strasbourg until the end of May 2025.
Navigation on this region’s waterways is quite easy and perfectly suitable for a first canal cruise experience.
You can moor wherever you want along the canals, even in the heart of the countryside.
