The Passage of Locks on the Canal du Nivernais

The heart of the French river navigation. With over 850 km of canals and waterways, this region has several faces : a natural river in the east, the Saône and many picturesque canals in the West, Canal du Nivernais, Lateral to the Loire. With over 10 possible starting points, all fans will find a cruise that fits them.

The locks are automatic or electric and most are manned by lock keepers, except on the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal du Centre where some are manual. They are open on bank holidays.
On the Canal du Nivernais, there is a ladder of 16 consecutive locks near Baye. Boating experience is recommend for navigating on the Doubs.
Between Saint Jean de Losne and Mâcon, you must only stop at designated moorings, elsewhere you can moor anywhere along the banks in the heart of the countryside.
