SELF DRIVE RIVER BOAT RENTALS FROM Branges
This base located in the Burgundy Bresse is very close to Louhans. It is the starting point for a cruise on the Seille and for one week or more, you can sail on the Saone. The village butchery offers you the veal head prepared (specialty of the region), not to be missed.
The locks are automatic or electric, most of them manned by lock keepers. Most locks are closed on 1st May and 1st November (and on 14th July on the Yonne river and the canal de Bourgogne).
Recommended experience for navigation on the Doubs.
From June 2025: Navigation is closed at Chagny on the Canal du Centre (between the Saint-Gilles lock and the Crissey lock) due to a leak. Works are required to secure the embankment. Navigation is expected to reopen in March 2026.
Between Saint Jean de Losne and Mâcon, docking at a pontoon or in a mandatory port. Otherwise you can moor on the banks, in the countryside.

- The locks are manual on the Seille, so they are open on public holidays.
- You will find all the shops about 300m from the base: Grocery Store, 2 Butchers, 2 Bakeries, Pastry Shop, Florist Post, Cellar, Pharmacy, Hairdressers, Dentist, Doctor
- In Louhans (4 km from the base): you will find a wider choice of shops, not forgetting its famous Monday market!
- From € 2.50 to € 25 for 1 night depending on the length of the boat. Rates may change
- Airport: Dole, Lyon, Dijon and Geneva airports
