Rent a licence-free boat to navigate on the Charente towards Rochefort
During your boating holiday, the use and passage of manual locks without lock keeper will pace your navigation. There are 21 manual locks along the Charente. All locks are open on public holidays. Between Saint-Savinien and Rochefort, the Charente is subject to tides. This boating area is not recommended for beginners. If you wish to head towards Rochefort, you can start your cruise in Cognac. Before setting off, you will receive a short 1-hour training session about navigation rules and maneuvers.
There are not many locks. They are all manual and open on bank holidays.
It is strongly advised to moor only on the pontoons provided, as the level of the Charente is influenced by the tides, and the level may fall or rise by a few centimetres at night.
Mooring is only permitted in designated places and not in the countryside.
