The Charente river is one of the hidden gem French waterways. During your boating holiday, the use and passage of manual locks without lock keeper will pace your navigation. We recommend to explore the Charente with several crew members to fully enjoy this dynamic cruise. Three departure bases are possible for a cruise on the Charente river: Cognac, Jarnac and Sireuil. Before setting off, it is compulsory to attend a short 1 hour training session to familiarise yourself with the operation of the boat's controls, to learn about the river code and the principle of navigation.
There are not many locks. They are all manual and open on bank holidays.
It is strongly advised to moor only on the pontoons provided, as the level of the Charente is influenced by the tides, and the level may fall or rise by a few centimetres at night.
Mooring is only permitted in designated places and not in the countryside.
