SELF DRIVE RIVER BOAT RENTALS FROM Bellegarde
A short walk in the streets of Bellegarde will allow you to discover the ruins of the Madonna tower. Bellegarde is the starting point for a boat cruise without a license in the Camargue.
The locks are automatic or electric and manned by lock keepers. The locks are closed the 1st of may .
The ladder of locks at Fonsérannes (near Béziers) is very busy during the high season. Frontignan Bridge opens twice a day, in the morning and mid-afternoon.
The one-way or the navigation towards the Carmargue while crossing the Etang de Thau can be canceled or interrupted if the climatic conditions, in particular the wind, do not allow to pass the Etang de Thau. This does not prevent you from sailing while waiting for the reopening of the pond to navigation.
Notice: Navigation conditions on the Canal du Midi are evolving according to the following schedule:
Homps: reopening on 25 March
Trèbes: reopening on 10 April
Full canal navigable: from 15 April (restrictions remain in the Narbonne area)
Please note: from 25 March, departures from Homps are possible in downstream direction only, i.e. heading east (towards Béziers).
You can moor anywhere along the banks on the Canal du Midi and in the Camargue.
- Road: A9 motorway, then A54, exit 2 Garons (12 km).
- Train: TGV, Nîmes (22 km).
- Airport: Nîmes (14 km), Montpellier (65 km).
- Carrefour Market at 1km
