8 km from Dompierre is an animal park and animation, take a little time before boarding to visit it. Dompierre is the starting point for one-way cruises on the Canal Lateral to the Loire towards Briare.
The locks are automatic or electric and most are manned by lock keepers, except on the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal du Centre where some are manual. The locks are closed the 1st of May and the 1st of November.
During the season locks are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are closed for lunch between 12:00-13:00 (1:00 p.m.).
On the Canal du Nivernais, there is a ladder of 16 consecutive locks: l'échelle de Sardy.
Between Saint Jean de Losne and Mâcon, you must only stop at designated moorings, elsewhere you can moor anywhere along the banks in the heart of the countryside.

- The Canal de Roanne in Digoin is open every day from 9h-12h, 13h-18h. Ten manual locks with lock keeper, closed only on 1 November. The Canal Lateral à la Loire and the Canal du Nivernais are open every day from 9h to 12h and from 13h to 19h. Lockmen are present at most (manual) locks. Closed on May 1st and July 14th, on November 1st only on the Canal Lateral à la Loire. On the Nivernais, accompanying boats at the locks from March to June, in September and October (changing according to the frequency of boats). In July and August, a lock keeper is present at each lock.
