From Languimberg, many routes are available to you. You can leave for Nancy for a cruise in the heart of Alsace, for Strasbourg to take one of the most impressive river structures in Europe or head for Sarreguemines to explore the Saar Canal. This is the direction in which we propose to take you.
Let's go for 70 km of waterways. In this navigation area you can start your river cruise from 2 departure bases: Languimberg and Harskirchen.

Rent a licence-free boat to navigate on the Saar Canal
Dug in 1860 to transport coal, the former canal des Houillères de la Sarre promises a beautiful navigation. It crosses the Saar via a aqueduct and the Fénétrange forest via a chain of locks. The route ends in the middle of the lakes of the Lorraine Regional Park.
Cruise along this 64 km route starting in the Stock lake and ending in Sarreguemines. The 27 automatic locks are activated by remote control, which makes the cruise very easy. You can start your cruise from 2 departures points on the Saar Canal: Languimberg or Harskirchen. Before departure, you will receive a short 1-hour training session about navigation rules and maneuvers.

The locks are automatic on the Marne-Rhine Canal and the Rhone-Rhine Canal. They are closed on some bank holidays. Locks are manual on the Canal de la Sarre.
The Canal de la Marne requires repair work east of Saverne: navigation is therefore interrupted at this level from March 2025 until the end of May 2025.
Sector concerned: Canal de la Marne au Rhin, East branch (on reach 34) between pk 271.016 (Lock 33 at Monswiller) and pk 272.221 (Lock 34 at Steinbourg).
As a result, there is no one-way navigation in Alsace (Boofzheim-Hesse or Languimberg-Waltenheim) from March to the end of May 2025, and no navigation to Strasbourg until the end of May 2025.
Navigation on this region’s waterways is quite easy and perfectly suitable for a first canal cruise experience.
