Self drive river boat rentals from Hindeloopen in Hollande
This base is the starting point for cruises on the Dutch channels one week one way to Vinkeveen.
Lock keepers operate all locks and some lifting bridges. Lock/bridge fee between €1 and €7. Depends on area and different per bridge/lock.
Opening hours: Locks are closed for lunch around 12:00-13:00 and for tea around 16:30-17:30.
Public holidays: Locks are closed on some public holidays.
In Hindeloopen-Stavoren area locks/bridges are open: 1st April to 31st October: Daily. Before 1st April: Closed on Sunday.
In Vinkeveen area locks/bridges are open: 15th April to 15th October: Daily. 1st - 15th April & 15th - 31st October: open with an appointment, lock closed on Sunday.
In one week round trip from Hindeloopen, it will not be possible to go to Amsterdam. To visit Amsterdam, we advise you to moor at Weesp (then take the train) or to Six Haven, behind Amsterdam Central Station.
You will find many well-equipped ports and moorings along the canal.
- There is a small supermarket near the base. Open Monday or Friday from 8.30am to 12.30pm | 1:30 pm - 7 pm Saturday 8h30-12h30 | 1h30 -18h. Sunday 9h-12h
- Fishing is allowed in the canal. A fishing license is required. You can get your fishing license from the tourist office (4 € per day, 15 € per week).
- Car: From the south (Amsterdam). Take the A1 and then the A6 motorway to the north. Take exit 17 towards Lemmer / N359. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto the N359. Stay on this road and cross Lemmer. At Beam, turn left at the roundabout (still on the N359) following the direction of Stavoren. After 13.5 km, leave the N359 towards Hindeloopen. After 1.92 km the road turns sharply to the left. Follow the road, you will cross a bridge. Then take the direction of Schullenburg. Continue on this road for 500m then the base will be shown on your left.
- Train: Hindeloopen (2 km from the base)
- Airplane: The nearest airport is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, 122km from Hindeloopen or 2.5 hours drive.
