Self drive river boat rentals from Portumna in Irlande
Portumna has one of the largest swing bridge in Europe (the largest during its construction in the early 20th century), as well as a beautiful castle dating from 1618. This base is the starting point for one-week one-way cruises on Shannon to Carrick on Shannon.
The locks are electric and open every day from 9h to 19h. A magnetic card sold at the bse 13 € offers you the passage of locks, toilets, showers and emptying.
Children up to 17 years old must wear a lifejacket.
Mooring at public ports are free and cost around € 15 in private marinas. It is forbidden to spend the night at anchor on the lakes.
