Self drive river boat rentals from Laggan in Ecosse
Port of departure for rentals, this small port is very nice and well equipped.
The smaller sections of the canal have 29 locks operated by lock keepers. There are only about 10 locks on most cruising routes. Life jackets must be worn in the locks.
Opening hours: During the busy summer season, the locks are open from 08:00 to 18:00. The locks are closed for one hour for lunch between 12:00 and 14:00.
Public holidays: no closing days
Navigation is very easy, mostly on large lakes.
However, you should be careful on the lakes in windy conditions.
Moorings and equipment are not free, so you will be charged for your reservation.
- Opening hours: 8h / 20h. The nearest shop is 3km from the base
- Car: From Fort William take the A82 to Inverness. Cross Spean Bridge (do not turn at the end of loch lochy, where the sign says Laggan Lock.This will take you to the wrong side of the canal), and after 20km (13miles) you will come to a swing bridge, cross it and take the first turning left with the panel KILFANNIAN, BALMAGLASTER. Travel 2.5km (1.5miles) on this road and look to your left. You will see wooden chalets; turn left down the hill just past the cottages. Go past the chalets with the loch (lake) on your right and follow the road to the parking lot of the base. Try to arrive between 14:00 and 16:00. The base closes at 17:30. If you plan to arrive later, please contact us in advance. Remember that roads in the Highlands can slow down your progress.
