Located between Brugge and Gent, Eeklo is the ideal starting point for your river cruise in the heart of the Belgian canals.
The locks are manned by lock keepers. They are closed on some bank holidays.
Navigation on the Belgian waterways is not so easy and we would not recommend this destination for your first boating holiday.
From 10 August 2026: navigation will be closed from Bruges towards Ghent and the Fintele lock.
From 24 August 2026: navigation will reopen between Bruges and Ghent. The Fintele lock will remain closed until 2 October, making it impossible to complete the full loop via Diksmuide – Ypres – Veurne.
We strongly recommend you only moor up at designated moorings at and not in the middle of the countryside.
